Style Your Interior With Custom Area Rugs
Your wood floor looks nice, but your feet are always cold in the winter.
You’ve decorated and redecorated and tried Feng Shui, but that one room still looks bland.
Your in-laws are coming to your new home for the first time and you messed up the turkey last Thanksgiving, so you have to up your game in every way to win back their respect.
No matter what your reason, you’ve decided the best remedy is an area rug, but don’t know where to start. Lucky for you, we can tip you on how to style your home with rugs!
Three main points to consider when buying an area rug:
1. The room’s color scheme.
2. The room’s size.
3. The room’s atmosphere.
Coordinating Color
If you want your room to look seamlessly pulled together, you have to make sure colors coordinate. If your color scheme is pastel and you come home with a deep red rug, your room is going to look unbalanced. You don’t need to find a rug that matches the exact paint on the walls or that one antique dresser you got from the aforementioned in-laws, so instead stick with complimentary hues. Your area rug should emphasize what you already have, not create a different idea. Look at artwork, throw pillows, and the furniture that will surround the rug. Pull ideas from those colors and maybe you’ll find a striped, multi-colored rug that includes every color in the room, or a solid color that makes the couch it’s under pop. Your area rug can be a focal point, but it shouldn’t distract from your overall design.
Size It Up
If the room you’re decorating is small, don’t get a large rug. Large rugs will make the space seem even smaller than it already is and, at that point, you might as well just carpet the whole floor. (But your wood floor is too nice and rugs are too fun, so don’t do that!) Smaller, light colored rugs will give your tiny room the illusion of largeness and space.
Atmosphere
The rooms in your home all have a different purpose and atmosphere, and rugs can help promote the desired vibes. In the fancy dining room you use for romantic nights in or entertaining at holidays, use a rug with deep, rich tones and intricate patterns to help accentuate the formal atmosphere. In the living room, find a whimsical rug that is light and fun to keep the room open and welcoming for entertaining friends or casual lounging
Now you know how to start! Revamp any room with a beautiful rug and your feet, Feng Shui, and in-laws will forgive you.
